Porcelain is non-porous, resisting both stains and UV damage, ensuring its colour and finish remain vibrant and easy to clean and maintain.

Durability

Porcelain is highly resistant to scratches, chips, and cracks, making it a long-lasting option that can handle everyday wear and tear.

Hygienic + Antibacterial

The non-porous nature of porcelain prevents the growth of bacteria, mould, and mildew, making it a hygienic choice for areas prone to moisture, like bathrooms and kitchens.

Fingerprint & Streak Free

Porcelain resists fingerprints and streaks, maintaining a clean and polished look with minimal upkeep, ideal for kitchens and bathrooms.

Eco-Friendly

Porcelain is made from natural raw materials, 100% recyclable, and crystaline silica free, with a production process that is relatively environmentally friendly compared to some other materials.

Porcelain Benchtops Frequently Asked Questions

Porcelain is an ancient material that has been used all over the world for centuries for a variety of purposes. Recently, it has become a hot trend in Australia for use in the kitchen because of its versatility and durability. So why should you consider porcelain for your home renovation or kitchen makeover project? Here are some of the main questions you have answered:

Porcelain was first developed in China, and although records are sketchy on when it was first invented, there is evidence showing that it could have been used up to 2000 years ago – and remains a popular option today. It is a ceramic material that is created by heating other clay-like materials at high temperatures in a kiln, which makes it highly durable and resistant to chemicals, heat, UV rays, scratches, heat and cold – even before it is glazed. It is known to be much stronger and more attractive than other pottery options and ceramics and is a perfect option for use in kitchens.

While porcelain might be up to 2000 years old, it is still a relatively new concept in Australia for use in kitchens for benchtops and splashbacks. As it is a new trend, that meant it could be expensive in the early days, but this price is coming down in a big way, and it is a much more cost-effective solution than other materials like stone.

Porcelain (Our Supernatural Range) is the most advanced material for Benchtops. It is a toughened Stone and is toughened at 1220°C and can withstand prolonged periods of fire and heat. I personally use it in my wood fire oven too. It is Stain Proof, Heat Proof & Thermal Shock Proof. Our Porcelain range comes with a LIFETIME guarantee.

Engineered Stone has been around for nearly 50 years, it was first created by Sir Marcello Toncelli and has been widely used in Australia for the past 20 years. It is not a toughened material and can not withstand high levels of heat. Sudden variation in temperature can thermally shock the material and it is not toughened like porcelain. Due to the high levels of silica (95%) in Engineered Stone, it has been highly criticised and has found to be causing silicosis disease in many stone masons where Waterjet cutting or Water cutting has not been used, especially dry cutting onsite.

Because porcelain can stand up to a lot of punishment, it is perfect for both outdoor and indoor cooking settings. Heat and the elements are not an issue, prolonged exposure to chemicals is not going to make it stain or fade, and cleaning is as simple as wiping with a soft cloth. It also boasts anti-bacterial qualities which makes it a hygienic option and it can also replicate more expensive marble options which makes it highly popular for use on kitchen benchtops.

Because porcelain is non-porous, you can easily use water and chemicals on it without fear of it seeping in the wood of your benches. It is resistant to pretty much everything, and you only need a damp cloth with a bit of water to make porcelain surfaces clean and shiny once more.
