Introduction of Stone Benchtop Overlays

United Stone Melbourne was founded with the launch of QuartzStone12, a 12mm engineered stone that transformed the industry. This innovative material enabled affordable and efficient benchtop overlays, making high-quality stone surfaces more accessible to Victorians and setting a new standard in kitchen design.

We revolutionised our processes by replacing traditional MDF templates with 3D Laser Templating. Stepping Up Silica Safety

We prioritised wet cutting and water suppression as the foundation of our silica safety protocols. All work vehicles were equipped with water systems to ensure suppression onsite, and strict measures like taping off areas were implemented when necessary. Additional dust control methods, including air vacuums and extraction systems, complemented these efforts. Above all, if a job couldn’t be done safely, we refused to proceed.

Transition to Porcelain Benchtops

With the capabilities of waterjet technology, we introduced porcelain benchtops, a safer and more durable alternative to engineered stone. We made the proactive decision to discontinue engineered stone well before it was officially banned, prioritising the health and safety of our team and customers.

At the time, the market was still reliant on engineered stone, and the use of porcelain was relatively new. We had to lead the way, putting in the effort to educate homeowners and grow demand for this innovative material. By pioneering this shift, we positioned porcelain as the superior choice well ahead of the market trend.
